NPA Member from Matuguinao Surrenders to Police

CALBIGA, Samar — A member of the underground mass organization (UGMO) of the New People’s Army in the municipality of Matuguinao surrendered to the authorities early morning of Friday, January 17, 2025.

The Matuguinao Municipal Police Station (MPS) accepted the voluntary surrender of Alias Omel, 53 years old, a married individual and a member of the UGMO under the FC-2 Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) Browser of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee.

Alias Omel shared that he had no other option but to leave the rebel group due to the hardships faced by the communist organization. He also expressed his desire to lead a simple life with his family.

Following the negotiations, Alias Omel was escorted by PCpt. Marvin Labrague to the Matuguinao MPS for proper documentation.

In an interview with PCpt. Labrague, it was revealed that the police initially provided Alias Omel with a small amount of cash to help him purchase basic necessities. Additionally, the Chief of Police of Matuguinao stated that they would assist Alias Omel in entering the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

PCpt. Labrague emphasized that Alias Omel’s return to government control is a testament to the effectiveness of government programs, especially in the municipality of Matuguinao. He further mentioned that the local government is very proactive in ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.

In connection with this, the Matuguinao MPS continues to call on those who are planning to return to government control, assuring them that the authorities are ready to help them reintegrate into society and live peaceful and normal lives in their communities. | via Rommel Rutor, The Samar Chronicle
