45 NPA Members Neutralized, 54 Firearms Seized in Eastern Visayas – Army

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar – The Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division reported a major achievement in its fight against insurgency in Eastern Visayas for the first half of 2025.

According to the military, a total of 45 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) have been neutralized during operations from January to June this year. Of these, 17 were killed in armed clashes, one was captured, and 27 surrendered to authorities.

Troops also recovered a total of 54 firearms, including 21 seized during encounters and 33 surrendered by former rebels.

Major General Adonis Ariel Orio, commander of the 8th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Storm, credited the success to the combined efforts of the military, local government units, and the public.

“These results are not just because of our troops but also because of the strong support from local governments and civilians. The information we receive from communities is a big help in weakening the NPA’s operations,” said Maj. Gen. Orio.

He added that these developments show the continued decline of the NPA’s presence and influence in the region.

“We’re hitting their ranks and their ability to fight. But beyond military action, we’re also pushing for good governance and development, so peace will last,” Orio said.

The 8th Infantry Division again called on the remaining NPA members to surrender and take advantage of the government’s programs for reintegration and a peaceful return to society.
