City Employees’ Sports Tournament Opens in Catbalogan City

CATBALOGAN CITY — On Friday, June 21, 2024, City Mayor Dexter Uy led the opening ceremony of the City Employees’ Sports Tournament at the Catbalogan City Plaza. 

Mayor Dexter Uy lighted the cauldron to officially commence this year’s Employees Sports Fest at the City Plaza, on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Using a torch, Mayor Uy lighted the cauldron to officially signal the commencement of this year’s Mayor Dexter M. Uy Cup: City Employees’ Sports Tournament.

The opening parade kicked off the weeklong event, featuring city employees from various departments.

“Although we all want to win, let’s remember to maintain unity because this is for all of us,” Mayor Dexter emphasized in his opening speech, underscoring the spirit of solidarity through sports.

City Administrator Atty. Dennis Cosmod led the Oath of Sportsmanship, followed by the oaths of the officiating coaches and judges for the tournament.

City employees formed eight teams, each representing Catbalogan City’s rich aquatic resources: Masterful Masag, Notorious Nuos, Mighty Mayahini, Beasty Bukawil, Powerful Pakol, Savage Sarad, Brave Banisil, and Legendary Lato. These teams competed in various events, displaying their strength, agility, and sporting finesse.

During the parade, employees showcased their colorful uniforms and custom banners, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere. Teams also competed in the Banner Raising, Cheer Dance, Saludo, Best in Uniform, and Best in Banner competitions.

Savage Sarad emerged victorious in the Banner Raising Competition, with Brave Banisil and Powerful Pakol securing the 1st and 2nd Runner-Up positions, respectively.

In the cheer dance competition, Notorious Nuos claimed the championship title, followed by Masterful Masag and Mighty Mayahini as 1st and 2nd Runner-Up.

Mighty Mayahini triumphed in the Saludo Competition, with Masterful Masag and Beasty Bukawil taking the 1st and 2nd Runner-Up spots.

The Best in Uniform award went to the Nuos Team, with Team Pakol and Team Masag as runners-up. Beasty Bukawil won the Best in Banner award, while Mighty Mayahini and Masterful Masag were named 1st and 2nd Runner-Up.

The city hall employees demonstrated their athleticism, camaraderie, and passion for sports throughout the event, celebrating Catbalogan City’s spirit of unity and competition.
