CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – The 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division conducted a formal send-off ceremony for the newly graduated Scout Rangers of Class 223-24 at the Old Terminal, Calbayog Airport, Calbayog City, on November 4, 2024.
Earlier, a total of 190 troops have been deployed across various operational areas on Samar Island for their Combat Test Mission (CTM).
Capt. Jefferson Mariano, chief of the Division’s Public Affairs Office, said they were part of Scout Ranger Course students sent here for a combat test mission as their final test, and they successfully succedded.
“Tapos na training nila at babalik na sila sa Bulacan (for their culmination activities)”, the military official said.
While in Samar, Mariano said, the Rangers’ deployment supports Joint Task Force Storm’s ongoing Security, Stability, and Sustainment Operations, with the mission of eliminating the remaining elements of the communist terrorist groups in the region.
In his address, BGen. Perfecto P. Peñaredondo praised the soldiers for their unwavering commitment and readiness to take on the mission with dedication and courage.
“We are in awe of your achievements—not only in terms of tactical success but also in boosting the morale and determination of those who serve alongside you. The sacrifices you’ve made have not only brought security to our communities but have also strengthened our unity, reminding us of a purpose greater than ourselves. Your courage sends a clear message: we will not back down, and we will fight until peace is fully achieved,” BGen. Peñaredondo stated.
During the ceremony, Task Group Panther and the Scout Rangers of Class 223-24 were awarded for their significant contributions to the success of JTF Storm’s mission. | The Samar Chronicle via Ricky Bautista
