A new chapter in Tacloban City’s economic and tourism landscape is unfolding as construction begins on the Benjamin Romualdez International Convention Center (BRICC)—a landmark project poised to transform the city into an Eastern Visayas regional hub for major events and business gatherings.
The BRICC, set to rise on the site of the former Leyte Park Hotel along Magsaysay Boulevard, will feature a 5,000-seat capacity, modern conference amenities, and world-class facilities designed to accommodate international conventions, corporate summits, and trade exhibitions.
With an initial budget of P750 million, the project is expected to generate employment and drive growth across multiple industries, from hospitality and retail to transportation and tourism. Local businesses, hotels, and restaurants stand to benefit from the influx of visitors and delegates once the center becomes operational.
House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Mayor Alfred Romualdez spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony on February 7, 2025, signaling the start of a long-awaited development aimed at boosting Tacloban’s post-pandemic recovery and long-term economic sustainability.
“The BRICC is more than just a convention center—it’s an investment in Tacloban’s future,” said Speaker Romualdez. “This will place our city on the map for international events and create lasting opportunities for our people.”
The convention center is expected to be completed in three years and is anticipated to strengthen Tacloban and Leyte’s presence in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry. Officials believe the project will cement Tacloban’s status as a premier destination for large-scale events, driving sustainable development across Eastern Visayas.
