Asian advocacy groups have called on Japan’s new Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, to end the country’s financing of fossil fuels and prioritize climate action and energy security in Asia.

During a protest action on Oct. 28 in front of Japanese Embassy in Manila, the groups argued that Japan’s leadership of the Asia Zero Emission Community alliance promotes fossil fuel dependence rather than genuine decarbonization, citing support for liquefied natural gas, ammonia co-firing, and carbon capture and storage technologies.
