TESDA, 8ID, and PRO8 Collaborate to Empower Personnel, Former Rebels, and Community Groups Through Skills Development

Catbalogan City, Samar— The 8th Infantry (Stormtroopers) Division, Philippine Army, in conjunction with the Police Regional Office VIII and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region VIII, conducted a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony at Camp Sec Ruperto K Kangleon in Palo, Leyte on February 29, 2024.

This initiative aims to enhance cooperation among the three organizations by facilitating the provision of necessary technical skills by TESDA to members of the Philippine Army and PNP.

Moreover, the MOU seeks to bolster the comprehensive implementation of Executive Order 70 by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

This effort supports the reintegration into mainstream society of former rebels who have voluntarily surrendered to the Army and PNP, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills to embark on a new journey in their lives.

Major General Camilo Z. Ligayo, Commander of the 8ID, expressed his profound appreciation to TESDA for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts in realizing this vital partnership.

“It has always been one of the thrusts of our organization to equip our personnel with the necessary skills and life-long learning, be it through military or civilian schooling which could be useful in the performance of our functions,” Maj. Gen. Ligayo emphasized.

“One of our initiatives is organizing the former rebels into a people’s organization and assisting them in their registration to be able to avail the programs of the government available for them which include livelihood assistance, reintegration assistance, and skills training among others,” he added.

This collaborative effort signifies a significant step forward in fostering unity and progress in the region, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development and peace-building efforts in Samar and Leyte.
