
CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Lieutenant General Fernando M. Reyeg, Commander of the Visayas Command (VISCOM), conducted a significant two-day visit to the 8th Infantry “Stormtroopers” Division, Philippine Army, where he commended the troops for their unwavering commitment to service and tireless efforts in maintaining peace in Eastern Visayas on August 24–25, 2025.
His visit highlighted the vital role of the 8ID as the backbone of stability and development in the communities it serves.
In his message, Lt. Gen. Reyeg emphasized the 8ID’s contributions to bringing the region closer to lasting peace and sustainable growth.
“The Stormtroopers of 8ID have demonstrated remarkable dedication and courage in their mission. Your service and sacrifices do not go unnoticed. You are the pride of the Visayas Command, and your devotion to duty has been crucial to our gains against the remnants of insurgency,” Lt. Gen. Reyeg said.
As part of his itinerary, Lt. Gen. Reyeg visited the 803rd Infantry “Peacemakers” Brigade, the 20th Infantry “We Lead” Battalion, and a Forward Operating Detachment (FOD) within the area of responsibility of the 43rd Infantry “We Search” Battalion in Northern Samar. He personally recognized the efforts of frontline troops and assured them of his full support, stressing that their courage and resilience are key to the success of the campaign to eradicate insurgency.

The VISCOM Commander also honored the bravery of 8ID personnel, awarding two Gold Cross Medals and five Silver Cross Medals to the planners and operating troops behind the intense July 31, 2025, encounter in San Isidro, Las Navas, Northern Samar, which resulted in eight enemy casualties and the seizure of ten firearms.
Lt. Gen. Reyeg’s visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between VISCOM and 8ID in sustaining peace and order in Eastern Visayas—a region long affected by conflict but now steadily moving toward peace and progress.
