For many, stories are an escape; for others, they are an adventure. And now, SM Book Nook is inviting readers of all ages to journey into the heart of Filipino storytelling at its first-ever Reading Festival.

Taking place on January 31, 2025, at SM Aura’s Level 3, this year-opener festival promises a day filled with interactive and immersive literary activities. It’s more than a celebration of books — it’s a tribute to the enduring power of stories to connect, inspire, and transform.

Imagine a space where the love for reading comes alive. The festival will feature various “nooks” — interactive spaces designed to ignite curiosity and imagination. From whimsical storytelling boards for kids to thought-provoking book clubs and captivating author talks for adults, every visitor is bound to find a nook they can call their own.

“Our goal is to make reading accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” says Shereen Sy, founder of SM Book Nook. “This festival is a celebration of the stories that connect us and the joy of discovering new worlds through books.”

What inspired the festival is a love for books deeply rooted in Filipino culture and an ambitious dream shared by the teams behind SM Book Nook and Bookshelf PH. This dream has culminated in a festival that not only celebrates stories but also champions Filipino authors and their works. The event will commence with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by storytelling sessions, author meet-and-greets, and book signings. This festival reflects our shared belief that literature has the power to shape the future by inspiring the present.

“This festival is about rekindling the joy of reading and celebrating the creativity of Filipino authors,” shares Margarita Catalan, Assistant Vice President, Marketing Operations, SM Supermalls, “We want every attendee to feel the magic of stories and walk away with a renewed sense of wonder.”

And the festival isn’t just for avid readers. Whether you’re rediscovering your love for books or exploring it for the first time, there’s something for everyone. For children, there’s the magic of storytelling. For young adults, there are immersive reading corners where their favorite genres take center stage. And for adults, discussions with esteemed authors promise to offer fresh insights and perspectives.

To mark the event’s significance, SM Book Nook is also partnering with a selection of book publishers to showcase Filipino-authored works that reflect the diversity and richness of Philippine literature. From beloved classics to contemporary must-reads, this curated collection underscores the festival’s mission to celebrate homegrown talent.

“Filipino stories are the heart of this festival,” adds Michelle Dulinayan, managing editor of Bookshelf PH, one of the publishers participating in the event, “We hope this event inspires a new generation of readers and writers who will continue to tell stories that resonate deeply with our culture and experiences.”

SM Book Nook’s first-ever Reading Festival is not just an event but a celebration of stories that bind us together. So, bring your curiosity and a love for tales, and step into a world where stories come to life.

The event runs from 10 AM to 9 PM. Admission is free, making it accessible for everyone to experience the wonder of Filipino storytelling.

Discover your next favorite story and join the celebration. For more updates, follow SM Book Nook and Bookshelf PH on social media.
