WARAYA Marks 20th Anniversary in Catbalogan City

CATBALOGAN CITY — The Waray-Waray Youth Advocates (WARAYA) in Catbalogan City celebrated its 20th anniversary with a series of youth-oriented activities.

On July 7, WARAYA held its Grand Ball 2024 at the Bodega Skol Bar, graced by the youthful Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy. During the occasion, Mayor Uy congratulated the newly elected officers of the organization as well as its seasoned members, emeritus, and rookies.

On Tuesday, July 9, Mayor Uy also joined the organization’s activities under the Office of the City Population and Youth Development. The young mayor thanked the Waray-Waray Youth Advocates (WARAYA) for their efforts to continue their advocacies, particularly those related to Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (ASRHR).

“Akon iginkakalipay nga makaupod kamo… (Ngan) Hinaot unta (nga) magpadayon pa an iyo paghatag hin inspirasyon ha kabatan-unan han Catbalogan pagduso hin mag-upay nga adbokasiya pareho han ASRHR,” Mayor Uy said. (“I am pleased to be with you… and I hope that you will continue to inspire the youth of Catbalogan in promoting good advocacies like ASRHR.”)

Through his social media page, Mayor Uy shared that WARAYA conducted three activities aimed at disseminating information to help the youth avoid disinformation about HIV and AIDS. The activities included “An Bikarade, Puppet Show, and Color Your Icon.”

“Agud malikayan han kabataan han Catbalogan an dire isakto nga mga impormasyon mahiunong han HIV ngan AIDS, nagdumara an WARAYA hin tulo nga buruhaton nga an kawsa in magpahamtang hin isakto ug verified nga mga detalye han nasabi nga mga sakit – an Bikarade, Puppet Show, ngan Color Your Icon,” Mayor Uy said. (To help the youth of Catbalogan avoid incorrect information about HIV and AIDS, WARAYA conducted three activities with the aim of providing accurate and verified details about these diseases – the Bikarade, Puppet Show, and Color Your Icon.)

The youths in Catbalogan City, mostly members of WARAYA, attentively listen and watch the shows prepared for them by the youth organization as they celebrate its 20th anniversary last July 9, 2024.
