CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines (November 15, 2024) — Typhoon “Pepito” continues to strengthen as it moves west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea, posing significant threats to Eastern Visayas and surrounding regions. The typhoon, with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h and gustiness of up to 190 km/h, is located 305 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, as of 11:00 PM, according to the state weather bureau.

Landfall Scenarios: Pepito is projected to make landfall in Catanduanes by tomorrow evening or early Sunday morning. However, alternate landfall scenarios in Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, or Camarines provinces remain possible.
Rainfall and Flooding: Heavy rains are expected in the next three days. Residents are urged to monitor Weather Advisory No. 39 for detailed forecasts. Flooding and landslides remain a significant concern in vulnerable areas.
Storm Surge: A moderate to high risk of storm surge reaching up to 3 meters threatens coastal communities in Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Batangas, and the Bicol Region, as well as Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte.
Coastal Waters: Gale warnings are in effect for the eastern seaboards of Luzon and Visayas, with sea conditions ranging from rough to very rough. Waves may reach up to 12 meters in Catanduanes and 8 meters along the coasts of Albay, Sorsogon, and Eastern Samar. Sea travel is highly discouraged.
