Employees of the Catbalogan City Government, particularly the staff of the City Treasurer, distributed social pensions to an island barangay despite bad weather and strong sea waves.
The activity was coordinated with the Catbalogan City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs.
In the photos shared by City Treasurer Elizabeth Lim, the team is seen wearing improvised plastic coats while traversing the sea from mainland Catbalogan to Sierra Island.
Recently, City Mayor Dexter Uy, accompanied the group and distributed the assistance to all senior citizens in every barangay in the city received their regular social pensions payout for the first semester of 2024.
The Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) Program of the DSWD aims to improve the well-being of qualifying indigent senior citizens by supplementing their daily living and medical needs, alleviating hunger, and protecting them from deprivation, neglect, or abuse. (By Ricky Bautista)
