CATARMAN, Northern Samar — The Australian Coral Geographer Expedition Cruise Ship, a sister vessel of the Coral Adventurer, is scheduled to visit Northern Samar on October 30, 2024.
The ship, with a capacity of 120 guests, is specially designed to access remote, untouched wilderness areas that are typically inaccessible to larger cruise liners.
Northern Samar will host two of the five featured destinations in Eastern Visayas, showcasing the Protected Area Eco Tour Circuit, which includes Biri Island and the Lalaguna Mangrove Eco Park. Both sites are part of the Biri-Larosa Protected Landscape and Seascape.
Biri Island is renowned for its ancient geological formations, featuring seven massive rock structures that date back millions of years. These towering formations have captivated visitors and scientists alike, offering a glimpse into the island’s rich geological history.
Meanwhile, the Lalaguna Mangrove Eco Park in Lavezares spans approximately 300 hectares and serves as a sanctuary for a variety of wildlife. The park is home to endemic and migratory bird species, fruit bats, monkeys, and a thriving marine ecosystem.
The arrival of the Coral Geographer provides Northern Samar with a unique opportunity to showcase its diverse ecological and cultural treasures to an international audience.
Visitors will experience the island’s distinct ecosystems and gain a deeper appreciation of the importance of conservation efforts in protecting these natural wonders. | reports and photos courtesy of Northern Samar Provincial Tourism Office
