CATBALOGAN CITY — The Province of Biliran is gearing up to host “Climb Biliran,” a three-day mountaineering event from June 14-16, 2024, featuring four captivating trekking tours and mountain adventures.
The event is part of the provincial government’s initiative to boost its mountaineering tourism, following the success of hosting a recent international adventure race. The event is organized in coordination with the Department of Tourism Eastern Visayas and Bukid Outdoor Shop’s Jason Garrido.
Prominent outdoor clubs from across the country have been invited to participate, with all expenses covered. Among the invited clubs is the Samar Mountaineering and Outdoor Club, Inc., whose members are already preparing their camping gear in anticipation of the event. Additionally, members of the Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines Inc. (MFPI) from various regions have confirmed their attendance.
Located in the northern region of Leyte, Biliran is renowned for its majestic mountain ranges, verdant forests, cascading waterfalls, and pristine islets and beaches. Formerly known as “Isla de Panamao” during the Spanish colonial era, Biliran has become a sought-after destination for outdoor enthusiasts, attracting hikers, beachcombers, adventure racers, and vacationers alike.
After successfully hosting three multi-day adventure races, including two prestigious international competitions, Biliran continues to build its reputation as an adventure paradise. The upcoming mountaineering event aims to further showcase the province’s natural beauty and tourism potential.
Participants can look forward to camping, hiking, social events, and numerous freebies. They are also expected to provide assessments and feedback to the host province on the event’s organization and the tourism routes and mountains presented.
Biliran’s provincial government hopes that “Climb Biliran” will establish the province as a premier destination for mountaineering and outdoor activities.
