Various advocacy groups in the Philippines have urged developed nations to fulfill their obligations to fund climate finance.

Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) coordinator Lidy Nacpil, along with other climate campaigners, condemned the alleged inaction of Global North governments, saying that their failure to meet financial commitments exacerbates the suffering of vulnerable communities in the Global South, including the Philippines.

“While rich, polluting countries shamelessly avoid their obligation to pay up, those who have contributed the least to global warming suffer the most from its effects. People in the Global South are losing their homes, livelihoods, and their very lives,” Nacpil said in a statement during a mobilization in Manila recently.
