Filipino climate activists gathered in front of the Japanese Embassy in Manila on Monday, June 3, 2024, to call on the Japanese government to “undertake drastic measures to rapidly phase out fossil fuel investments in Asia” to coincide with the three-day Japan Energy Summit in Tokyo.
“In the face of the climate crisis, an industry summit celebrating and strengthening fossil fuel companies is truly reprehensible. The Japan Energy Summit does not ‘accelerate the energy transition’ as they claim, but further delays it,” the activists said in a statement.
“We need solar and wind power to replace fossil fuel energy systems as rapidly as possible,” the climate advocates said in a statement,” they added.
