CAMP KANGLEON, Palo, Leyte – Seven individuals who went missing at the height of Typhoon Opong were successfully rescued in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, as the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) continues to lead clearing operations and relief distribution efforts across Eastern Visayas.
The rescue operation was carried out by personnel of the PNP Maritime Group, who responded swiftly after reports of missing persons surfaced amid severe weather conditions. The successful rescue highlights the readiness and rapid response capabilities of law enforcement in times of disaster.
Simultaneously, PRO-8, under the leadership of Regional Director PBGen Jason L. Capoy, mobilized police units to assist in post-typhoon operations in coordination with local government units and other concerned agencies.
Clearing operations are ongoing in affected areas, with police teams removing fallen trees, debris, and other obstructions from major roads to restore access and ensure the smooth delivery of aid. PRO-8 personnel are also deployed at evacuation centers, helping ensure the safety and basic needs of displaced families.
Relief efforts include the distribution of food, drinking water, and other essential supplies to communities most affected by the typhoon. PBGen Capoy assured the public that all police units in the region remain on heightened alert, not only to maintain peace and order but also to provide immediate assistance to those impacted by the disaster.
“Our presence in the field is not just about enforcing the law — it’s also about showing compassion, offering help, and being part of the community’s recovery,” Capoy said.
“PRO-8 remains committed to serving the people, especially in times of crisis.”
