CATBALOGAN, Philippines — The 8th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army has officially launched Task Force HOPE-Eastern Visayas to ensure the safety and integrity of the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections.

At the activation ceremony on February 11, 2025, Colonel Arlino L. Sendaydiego, commander of Task Force HOPE-EV, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and secure election environment across the region.
“Our team is dedicated to supporting the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and other agencies to prevent any unlawful acts that could undermine the democratic process. We will remain vigilant against any emerging threats,” said Col. Sendaydiego.
According to Capt. Jefferson Mariano, chief of the Division Public Affairs Office, Task Force HOPE-EV will focus on ensuring security in areas affected by the New People’s Army (NPA), particularly in and around voting centers. The task force will also assist COMELEC, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) with election-related security needs.
In addition, Task Force HOPE-EV will work closely with local government units (LGUs) to prepare for the elections. It will also help secure critical infrastructure, support voter education initiatives, ensure adherence to health and safety protocols, and coordinate with various stakeholders at both the local and national levels.
Major General Adonis Ariel G. Orio, commander of the 8th Infantry Division, emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of integrity while carrying out these duties.
“We are here to protect and serve our fellow citizens as they exercise their right to vote,” said Maj. Gen. Orio. “I urge you to perform your duties with respect and dedication, always remaining impartial and committed to the integrity of our mission.” | via Ricky Bautista, The Samar Chronicle.
