Samar Hosts Regional Launching of 51st Nutrition Month Celebration

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar – The Province of Samar played host to the regional launching of the 51st Nutrition Month celebration on July 4, 2025, at the Tandaya Hall, in line with Presidential Decree No. 491, also known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC) spearheads the annual celebration every July to raise public awareness on proper nutrition and to encourage various sectors to take part in promoting health and food security. This year’s theme is “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat,” with the sub-theme “Food at Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!”

The event in Samar was marked by various contests and community-driven activities, including slogan and poster-making competitions, a TikTok challenge, and a nutrition-on-wheels display. These activities aimed to engage the youth and communities in understanding the importance of proper nutrition and food security.

Present during the event were Catbalogan City Mayor Dexter Uy, Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, Department of Agriculture representative Romeo Delmo, and Dr. Catalino Dotollo Jr., Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of the NNC Region 8. Each guest delivered inspirational messages, underscoring the urgent need to prioritize nutrition and food access in local development plans.

A press conference with the attending guests followed the formal program, highlighting collaborative efforts between national agencies and local government units to combat malnutrition in Eastern Visayas.

The regional launch signals the start of a month-long celebration, encouraging more LGUs, schools, and communities to implement nutrition-centered programs in support of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN).
