PNP Chief commends PNP-ACG for dismantling “mother of all scam hubs”

MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil on Sunday commended the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), led by MGen. Ronnie Cariaga, for successfully dismantling the so-called “Mother of All Scam Hubs” located at Century Peak Tower in Manila.

PNP chief Gen. Francisco Marbil

In his statement, Gen. Marbil reiterated the PNP’s commitment to intensifying its anti-cybercrime efforts, in partnership with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), to eradicate all illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) within the next two months.

“This operation demonstrates the dedication of our PNP-ACG personnel, whose relentless pursuit of justice has disrupted a significant criminal network involved in online scams, illegal gambling, and human trafficking,” Marbil said.

He added, “We are determined to clear the country of these illegal POGOs within the next two months.”

The operation received strong support from Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, who expressed her appreciation for the PNP’s decisive action. Mayor Lacuna emphasized that the PNP’s swift response is crucial in safeguarding Manila’s communities from cybercrime, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation.

Gen. Marbil welcomed Mayor Lacuna’s commitment to supporting further efforts to shut down illegal POGO activities across the city.

The raid on Century Peak Tower, based on verified intelligence, highlights the PNP’s capacity to combat cybercrime and dismantle illegal operations. The 40-story building on Adriatico Street had reportedly become a hub for various POGO operations, hosting hundreds of individuals involved in illicit activities, including 69 foreign nationals.

The operation, coordinated with the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) led by MGen. Sidney Hernia and other PNP units, demonstrates the PNP-ACG’s expertise and commitment to enforcing the law effectively.

Gen. Marbil clarified that cybercrime operations are carried out solely by the PNP and NBI, as these agencies possess the necessary skills for such offenses. He affirmed the PNP’s commitment to filing charges against all involved parties, including the property owner, as forensic analysis of the evidence continues.

“This operation not only exposes the vast reach of illegal POGO activities but also underscores law enforcement’s unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal networks, safeguard public safety, and uphold the rule of law,” Marbil concluded.
